What to Expect During Dance Classes

Princess Ballet, Tiny Tap, Tiny Jazz, Tiny Tap/Jazz, Tiny Hip Hop, Disney Dance and Princess in Training

  • We have a cubby area inside each studio to put your belongings into; street shoes, socks, dance bag and coat.
  • Have your dancer ready in their appropriate class attire (see Dress Code) and hair pulled up and away from the face, and all jewelry removed.
  • All students stand outside of Studio 1 or 2 clear of the door and wait for the instructor to invite them in to begin the class.
  • Tiny dance program is designed to enhance your child’s motor, listening and social skills through dance activities.
  • Warm-up begins with a group song with all the students together. When finished the students will be divided into lines and learn stationary dance moves as well as across the floor.
  • The students will receive different rotations of dance instruction to offer a variety of learning techniques. Rotations occur every 3 – 10 minutes depending on age.
  • Tiny dance program is designed to enhance your child’s motor, listening and social skills through dance activities. Tiny dancers will learn dance basics, how to follow direction and imitate movement in a fun and positive environment. Engaging music is used to get these little ones inspired to dance!
  • When class is over the instructor will gather the group to line up for release and stamp/sticker time.
  • We do allow parents into the studio if their dancer needs support or encouragement until they become comfortable; we have a parent viewing area outside of both studios for you to watch from.
  • Most of our Tiny Dancers come for their fun dance class once per week, but you are always welcome to enroll into multiple classes.

Beginning Dance Acro, Dance Acro Levels 1-4, Pre Jazz, Jazz I, Jazz II, Pre Ballet, Ballet Fundamentals, Ballet I, Ballet II, Intermediate/Advanced Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Pointe, Hip Hop I, Junior Hip Hop, Teen Hip Hop, Tap I, Tap II, Intermediate/Advance Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Intermediate/Advanced Technique, Precision, Tricks + Turns

  • All classes begin with a warm-up dependent on each dance style. When finished the instructor will lead the students through stationary dance combinations and/or across the floor progressions dependent on that dance style.
  • Classes participating in the Spring Showcase performance will begin learning choreography for a 2 minute routine beginning in January.
  • When class is over the instructor will gather the group to line up for release and stamp/sticker time depending on the age group of the class.
  • We have a parent viewing area outside of both studios for you to watch from.
  • Most of our Rec Dancers come for their fun dance classes one to two times per week and you are always welcome to enroll into multiple classes or choose an unlimited option.

Company is a special audition group within Metro Dance Academy. Company members perform and compete throughout the year at various community performances and competitions. The members of this company also attend dance conventions and workshops within the Pacific Northwest. The 2019 competitive season runs from February through April.

  • For the 2018-2019 season we will be attending the following Competitions/Conventions: Spotlight (OR), JUMP (OR), Velocity (WA), 24Seven (WA), Thunderstruck (OR). Please check our calendar for location and details.

Members are cast in multiple routines in various dance styles.

  • For the 2018-2019 season we will be competing routines in Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical.
  • Company meets twice a week for rehearsals and technique. Members are required to take a Ballet class.

We also have a Pre Company group created for dancers interested in learning more about the competitive dance world. Pre Company dancers compete at two competitions per year and are not required to attend conventions.

  • For the 2018-2019 season, Pre Company will be competing at Spotlight (OR) and Thunderstruck (OR) in the Jazz division.
  • Pre Company meets once a week for team practice and is required to take one additional dance class in the style of their choice.

For the 2018-2019 school year Metro Dance Academy will have two performances: A Winter Snowflakes show and a Spring Showcase.

  • Snowflakes Winter Show will be Saturday, December 8th from 10:00 -1:00 at Metro Dance Academy.
  • Snowflakes Winter Show will be an in-studio performance for our younger dancers to give them a chance to perform earlier in the year. Short 30 minute rotation with three to four classes will dance then move to Studio 2 for an activity. Your dancers day will conclude with a goodie bag treat station. Dancers are free to leave once they perform or may stay and watch other classes. Each class should be done within an hour.
  • There are no ticket sales and all friends and family are invited to attend.
  • A Snowflakes fee of $15 will be due with November tuition to cover costume and activity fees. Please email danceatmetro@gmail.com by October 31st if your dancer will not be participating in the Snowflakes show. Telling an instructor or leaving a voicemail does not count as notification.   • Spring Showcase will be Saturday, June 15th at Lake Oswego High School Auditorium. There will be two shows, a matinee and an evening. Each show will have different routines. We do our best to make sure younger dancers perform during the afternoon show or before intermission of our evening show.
  • Dress rehearsal will be held on Friday, June 14th at Lake Oswego High School Auditorium.
  • Recreational classes will begin learning their Showcase routine in January.
  • A costume fee of $50 for pre classes and $60 for all other rec classes will be due with November tuition. Tiny dance classes that re-enroll in January will have a $50 costume fee due with January tuition.
  • We will begin taking measurement for costumes in October/November. Our costume policy can be found on our Performance page.
  • A Showcase fee of $30 will be due with February tuition. If your dancer will not be participating in Showcase please email danceatmetro@gmail.com by January 31st. Telling an instructor or leaving a voicemail does not count as notification.
  • Photography week will fall in May during your regular scheduled class time. Group and individual photos will be taken. Purchasing photographs is optional and we like for all students to be in the group photo whether they attend Showcase or not.
